Type 1 Registry
Launched on May 10th, 2017, the Ian Woosnam Type 1 Diabetes Registry aims to enhance the lives of those with Type 1 Diabetes in Barbados. By focusing on empowerment, education, and support, the registry strives to be patient-driven and address the unique needs within the Type 1 Diabetes community.
Its primary goals include annually updating participant information, pursuing specific research objectives, and improving access to care and technology. It’s important to note that the registry does not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
If you or someone you know has Type 1 Diabetes, joining the registry can connect you with local resources and the broader Type 1 Diabetes community in Barbados, offering valuable benefits and support.

Polyclinic Program
The Polyclinic Program, in collaboration with The Ministry of Health and Wellness, offers a referral opportunity for individuals who are:
- 1 Newly diagnosed with Diabetes
- 2 Struggling to control their diabetes despite ongoing efforts
- 3 Dealing with non-healing foot ulcers
If you fall into any of these categories, it’s worth discussing with your healthcare provider whether you qualify for this approximately six-month comprehensive care program.
The program’s goal is to empower you to either reverse your diabetes or significantly improve your ability to manage it on your own. Participants gain access to a wide range of services tailored to meet their specific health needs, although the exact care plan will depend on individual requirements.
The outcomes of this program have been very positive, with up to 65% of participants achieving a significant decrease in their HbA1c levels to within the recommended targets.

Transitional Program
The program was established with generous funding from The Ian Woosnam Type 1 Diabetes Registry.
It offers adolescents transitioning out of the public pediatric healthcare system at the only public hospital on the island a comprehensive care package.
This includes two years of care from a team of healthcare professionals and annual check-ups for an additional three years.
During this period, adolescents can choose to continue their care with either a private or another public provider. For more details, please contact the Type 1 Diabetes Registry.
