Dr. Diane Brathwaite MBBS, MRCP (London,) MSc Diabetes. PgDip Endocrinology (Distinction)

Post: Clinical Director (Full Time)

Completed her undergraduate training at the University of The West Indies, and has many years of postgraduate experience in the field of Diabetes and Endocrinology acquired in the United Kingdom. While there she also had the opportunity to work in Diabetes Care Centers in Jersey (Channel Islands) and Barnsely (Yorkshire). She believes in helping patients attain a position of empowerment and understanding in relationship to their health and more specifically diabetes. Dr. Brathwaite’s past experience as a professionally trained dancer encourages her to promote movement and exercise as a tool accessible and necessary for all persons. Other areas of interest in Diabetes are the young adult, obesity and the diabetic foot.

Dr Charles Pierce MBBS DM (Res) MRCOphth

Ophthalmologist

Dr Pierce graduated from the University of the West Indies and pursued specialist ophthalmology training in England including fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a postgraduate doctoral degree from the University of Southampton. Main interests are diabetic retinopathy, inflammatory eye diseases, retinal vascular diseases, macular degeneration, ocular oncology and ocular genetics. Passionate about the development of diabetic retinopathy screening with a view to reducing the long-term morbidity associated with the disease and research into new treatment strategies.

Dr Nya Maughn MBBS, MRCPsych (London)

Psychiatrist (part-time)

Dr Maughn is a medical graduate of the University of the West Indies. She pursued her postgraduate Psychiatric training in England and is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She was awarded a CCT in General Adult Psychiatry and Specialist Registration in 2013.  

With 13 years clinical experience in Psychiatry, has worked in a wide variety of psychiatric sub specialties and settings. Areas of interest include psychotherapy; thus helping persons to make sense of their experiences and empowering them to live fulfilling lives; in addition to liaison Psychiatry; exploring medicine and mental health: psychological medicine

Clinical Staff- Podiatry

Amor Forde BSc (Hons) Pod, MSc, MChS     

A graduate of the University of Brighton (UK) school of Podiatry, Amor has completed the Masters program in Podiatry specialising in the diabetic foot. She is a registered member of The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists and the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK. Her international work experience includes hospital and community placements spanning south-east England. Locally, Amor has worked in private practice since 2013 and at the Diabetes Centre since its inception.   

Amor’s entry into podiatry was driven by her concern with the alarming number of diabetes related amputations in Barbados and its impact on the most vulnerable in the society.  By becoming a member of the Diabetes Centre's multidisciplinary team, she is able to contribute her unique podiatric qualifications to an internationally proven and successful model of patient care, which focuses on prevention, education, management  and surveillance, with hopes of improving diabetic foot care locally.

Toni R. Pickering BSc (Hons) Pod, MChS.

Podiatrist

Graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University (UK) and a member of The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (UK). She is an HCPC registered podiatrist and has keen interest in diabetes, rheumatology and wound care management. Currently works as an associate podiatrist at multiple clinics.

Carolyn Prescod RN

Nurse Kevamae Sobers, RN, MSc (Diabetes)

Post: Diabetes Specialist nurse (Part-Time)

Graduated from the University of Brighton, UK.  She holds the post of Nursing Officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is currently working in the capacity as Diabetes Specialist Nurse. In addition to her functions in the Diabetes clinics at the hospital and The Diabetes Centre of The Barbados Diabetes Foundation, she is involved in the on-going training for health care professionals and makes wider contributions to Diabetes education and management as a member of the Diabetes Association of Barbados, the National Diabetes Education Task Force and the Diabetic Foot Care Committee.
